Medical Cyclists, Always Ready

As a Medical Outrider, you play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of participants throughout the event. This application helps us understand your professional background, medical expertise, cycling skills, and your availability for events and training. Please provide detailed and current information to best match your skills with our needs. Your dedication and expertise are crucial to us, and we're excited about the possibility of having you join our team.

Medical Rider Requirements

Medical Riders must be able to participate in the following Cascade rides: Flying Wheels, Kaiser Permanente Seattle To Portland Bicycle Classic presented by Alaska Airlines (STP), and Ride from Seattle to Vancouver and Party supported by Western Washington Honda Dealers (RSVP).

Before their first ride, Medical Riders receive a virtual communications training and an in-person medical training.

  • Flying Wheels (June 1)
  • Seattle To Portland (July 13-14)
  • RSVP (August 24-25)

Responsibilities

As a Medical Rider your primary duty is to provide medical aid to injured cyclists, support ride volunteers for a safe event, and ensure all participants feel supported.

Requirements

Applicants should be comfortable cycling up to 100 miles per day on busy roads alongside many cyclists and must attend a Bike Medic Training & Orientation Session. Medical Outriders are expected to commit to riding for a minimum of two Cascade events. During these events, they will offer medical assistance while riding, carry a medical aid kit and a basic bike repair kit, wear the official Medical Outrider Jersey, and meet the fitness levels required for back-to-back century rides.

Provided by Cascade Bicycle Club

Cascade will offer virtual incident reporting and communication training, special in-person Medical Outrider training, a Medical Outrider jersey, and assist with return transportation for specific events. Details on training dates and locations will be provided after application approval.

Riding with a Partner and Start Times

Medical Outriders can form two-person teams. Preferences for start times are given based on past participation, with efforts to distribute teams evenly throughout the event.
