Medical Outriders
Medical Outrider volunteers provide crucial on-bike medical support during live bicycle events.
Medical Riders are now part of the Outrider Program. To apply to be a Medical Outrider with the Outriders, please click here to learn more and access the application form.
As a Medical Outrider you play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of participants throughout the event. This application helps us understand your professional background, medical and mechanical expertise, cycling skills, and your availability for events and training. Please provide detailed and current information to best match your skills with our needs. Your dedication and expertise are crucial to us, and we're excited about the possibility of having you join our team.
Outrider Requirements
All Outriders are committed to participating in at least three Cascade rides throughout the year, with one of these being a "major event." To complete your major event requirement, you can ride Flying Wheels, Day 1 of STP, Day 2 of STP, Day 1 of RSVP, or Day 2 of RSVP.
For RSVP and STP, Outriders can choose to ride segments (e.g. Seattle to Renton, Centralia to Longview, etc.) rather than the entire 100 mile daily route. Riding a segment of STP or RSVP still counts as a "major event" ride.
To train and prepare, Outriders may participate in smaller events, join Free Group Rides, or assist food-insecure neighbors by delivering groceries through the Pedaling Relief Project. Experienced Outriders have the opportunity to volunteer at the Ride Operations Center for one of their rides.
Responsibilities
As a Medical Outrider your primary duty is to provide medical aid to injured cyclists, support ride volunteers for a safe event, and ensure all participants feel supported.
Medical Kit Requirements
A list of minimum supplies for your medical kit can be found on the Volunteer Resources page, including personal protective equipment, first aid supplies, and communication tools.
Application Process
If you are a rider with advanced medical and cycling experience, have knowledge of Cascade and its rides, and can commit to riding at least three of the events listed above as an Outrider, you can find the application on the Outrider page by following the link below Applications close Jan 3, 2026.
