Frequently Asked Questions

Registration

Do both riders on a tandem need to register for the ride? Yes, for services and liability reasons both riders must each complete and sign a registration form. Your fee is per rider, not per bike. Same for kids on tag-alongs.

What time is lost packet pickup open? 7 to 9 a.m. at the start line.

Do I have to belong to the Cascade Bicycle Club to go on this ride? Not at all! Members and non-members are encouraged to join this ride.

Can I ride an e-bike? It depends on the class of e-bike you will be riding and which route you plan to take. The long route allows all classes of e-bikes. Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are permited on the multi-use trails that make up the shorter route.

Is there a rider limit? Will the event sell out? The rider limit is 600 riders.

Where does my entry fee go? Your fee covers all the support during the ride, your ferry ticket (long route only), and finish line meal.

Can I get a refund if I can’t use my registration? See our refund policy.

Ferries

Can I get on any ferry from Point Defiance to Tahlequah? No; only the following sailings will have a Cascade volunteer posted to pay for your fare: 9:15, 10:05, 10:55, 11:45 a.m., & 12:35 p.m.

I've never used the WSDOT ferry system before. Where can I find more information on Colman Dock and WSDOT ferries? WSDOT Ferries has guides for first-time riders, riders with disabilities, and more.

The Route

Can I start the ride early? Course hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Riding outside of these hours may mean that you'll miss out on route support, the finish line meal, and more.

How hilly is the ride? Both routes include hills. For the shorter route, there is a big hill near the end of the route, after you pass by the ferry terminal. For the longer route, there are hills throughout the route.

What if I can not make it the entire route? In the event of a mechanical issue or a non-life threatening injury like a sprained wrist, SAG vehicles can transport you to the nearest rest stop or the finish line. Please select a route that is suitable for your abilities. You may decide on the day of the ride to select a different route.

If I have a flat or other mechanical problems will there be someone to help me? Yes! Outriders, posted mechanics, and SAG drivers can all assist you with common mechanic problems.

Are the roads closed to vehicle traffic? No. You should be comfortable riding with vehicular traffic, familiar with the rules of the road, and know how to communicate with other riders and drivers around you.

Logistics

Where can I park at the start line? Parking is available at Cascade Middle School and Evergreen High School, just down the street from the start line. Neighborhood streetside parking is also available, where posted. Please do not park at the White Center Bicycle Playground parking lot.

Miscellaneous

Suggested items to bring? Spring weather can be extremely variable. Bring a change of clothes to have in the car. Consider installing fenders on your bike, bring your rain and wind gear, and two water bottles. Even if you don't know how to change a flat, bringing a flat kit and a spare inner tube that fits your bike will enable others to help you on the go.

Distance
26 or 63 mi.
Elevation Gain
1,170 - 3,620 ft.
Terrain
Some Hills

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
