2024 Bike Walk Roll Summit Agenda and Program

After several years of virtual summit offerings, we are excited to return to an in-person Summit this year. Join us in Tacoma, WA from September 12 to 13.

Registration closes Friday, Sept. 6 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. Registration is available online only. Check out the tabs at the top of this page for the program and Keynote Speakers.

Overview

Our Summit theme this year is “Safe Streets for Everybody.” Safety is the number one barrier to more people walking and biking and is an important lens to view street improvements through. Between policies like Vision Zero, the Safe Systems Approach, and new funding from federal and state governments, how we create safe streets is rapidly evolving and ripe for exploration over our two-day summit.

Attend to tap into new best practice guidelines, learn new resources on available funding, and hear from peers about how communities in Washington and beyond are centering safety outcomes to build safe and accessible communities for everyone who bikes, walks, and rolls. Register for the summit and be inspired with us!

What is the Summit and Who Attends?

The Bike, Walk, Roll Summit is a two-day event that brings together people from all around Washington who are engaged in making our state one of the top bike, walk, and roll friendly states in the nation. During the Summit, we host mobile workshops, panels, experiential learning forums, and collaborative spaces for people who want to see biking, walking, and rolling as an accessible, safe way to get around our communities. The content is intended to inspire, educate, and inform elected officials, community advocates, planners and engineers, and more!

Inclusion

Everyone is welcome at Cascade Bicycle Club and WA Bikes events. We are committed to celebrating and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the bicycling community. We aim to provide safe spaces at all of our events. Read our commitment to anti-racism and our participant code of conduct and grievance policy.

We would like to acknowledge that the Summit takes place on the ancestral lands of the Puyallup Tribe. The Puyallup people have lived on this land since the beginning of time, and continue to do so today. Our offices are located on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present. We recognize this land acknowledgment is one small step toward true allyship and we commit to uplifting the voices, experiences, and histories of Indigenous people.

Accessibility at the Event

UW Tacoma offers a range of services, information, and support for disability-specific needs. If you have disability accommodation requests, please let us know as far in advance as possible and we can communicate those needs to UW Tacoma. If you wish, you may also contact UW Tacoma directly with your accommodation request by calling 253-692-4508 (voice), 253-692-4413(TTY), 253-692-4602 (fax), emailing drsuwt@uw.edu, or filling out this form.

Health and Safety

COVID-19 continues to spread in our communities and put people at risk of illness. We strongly recommend that attendees be vaccinated for COVID-19 in advance of the Summit, and wearing masks while in the meeting spaces is encouraged. We reserve the right to enact stricter protocols should they be warranted by public health circumstances closer to the meeting.

We encourage each attendee to carefully assess their symptoms each morning before coming to the meeting space. If you are sick and/or have symptoms of illness or COVID, we ask that you refrain from coming to Summit events. If you test positive for COVID while onsite at the event, please stay in your hotel room and contact your healthcare provider.

Sponsorships

We are actively seeking sponsors for the 2024 Summit! If you would like to learn more about sponsoring the Summit please contact Alison Driver, Director of Development, at alisond @ cascade dot org.

Parking and Transit

We encourage attendees to arrive by transit, carpool, or bike. UW Tacoma is accessible by a variety of public transportation options including buses, light rail, and commuter trains serving Pierce, King, and Thurston Counties. For more information and trip planning, resources are available on the campus website.

Parking on campus is regulated at all times and availability is extremely limited. There are pay parking lots on and around campus (See UW Tacoma’s website for a parking map and more resources). Most street parking is metered and limited to 90 minutes. Event attendees may park for free at the Tacoma Dome Station Garage and take the Link light rail, a 6-minute $2 ride, directly to campus. If you’re staying overnight, parking is available at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown two blocks away from the Summit venue on campus for $12/day or $19/overnight.

For event attendees with disability parking permits, please see UW Tacoma’s website

Where to Stay

We are holding a limited number of hotel rooms at a group discount rate for Summit attendees at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Tacoma. Rooms are available for the night of Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Thursday, Sept. 12 (room block numbers are especially limited on Wednesday night).

When secured through the group discount, the per night room rate is $179 plus tax.

We recommend booking early to ensure availability at the group rate. The group rate expires on August 14, 2024. You must book by that date to secure the group discount rate.

A link to book a room with the discounted rate will be provided in your registration confirmation email.

Scholarships

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and community, we are able to provide scholarships to cover the registration fee for Summit attendees who require financial assistance to travel to and/or attend the Summit. We will award scholarships on a rolling basis and you will be notified within a few weeks of application. To apply click here.
