Frequently Asked Questions

Registration

Q: If I'm riding on a tandem, do both riders need to register? A: Yes! Both riders will need to register. We need riders to agree to the code of conduct and the waiver, as well as supply emergency contact information. Talk to your partner and make sure you both register.

Safety & Etiquette

Q: Do I need to wear a helmet? A: Absolutely! When you register, you'll need to agree to our waiver of liability and our code of conduct. Please read all the details therein. Failure to wear a helmet will result in a withdrawal of support for you on this ride.

Q: What do I need to know about riding in a large group on an event like this? A: Know how to Ride S.M.A.R.T.! You'll be on the road and trails with hundreds of other riders. The route is not closed, so knowing how to safely navigate alongside pedestrians and vehicles is a must for your safety and enjoyment of this event.

Training

Misc.

What should I bring with me? You're required to bring and wear a helmet that fits you. Bring your bike and suitable layers for the fluctuating early fall weather. Carry two water bottles and fill them at each rest stop. Don't forget your valid government ID! Purchase of registration is not enough to redeem your drink samples. You'll also want to carry a flat kit (inner tube, repair kit, small pump, and tire levers). Even if you don't know how to use them, you'll at least have all the materials needed for someone else to help you.

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
