Welcome to the CTS # 6 ride: Two Points and a Levee!
Please note the ride start TIME CHANGE. All yellow riders should be in their groups ready to ride at 8:00 am, in particular the Y1 group since they are first to leave. You should arrive at Old Renton City Hall by 7:45 am in order to have your bikes offloaded and gear prepared. This is the same location that CTS # 4, the Full Lake Loop, started and finished. The first restroom stop is at mile 18 which is well beyond an hour's worth of riding, consider finding a restroom ahead of arriving or using the porta potties at the Skate Park. Please plan accordingly as far as additional time that may be needed.
****NOTE**** The route has been changed since first published. Please download the newest version of the route. The change is a reroute in how we get from Puyallup to Sumner.
This is a 75-mile ride and we need to be prepared to maintain strength and endurance. Please plan accordingly. Bring 2 water bottles with at least one of them filled with an electrolyte mix, and have additional mix to add later in the ride. Carry ample snacks you should be eating something about every 25 to 30 mins, it doesn't have to be a lot but it should be consistent. Consider cutting your power bars into bite sizes so they are easy to grab and snarf. And remember PB&J is your friend! There is a planned lunch stop at the Starbucks in Sumner. We plan to spend approximately 25 to 30 minutes at this stop. Don't forget the sunscreen and perhaps bring a 2nd inner tube in case of more than one flat tire.
The first 15 miles of the ride is relatively flat (and a preview of the STP route!) so we get a good warmup prior to the first climb up Peasley Canyon. From there we drop down to ride along Dash Point and southwest towards Browns Point where the views can be spectacular. We do plan for a photo stop at The Cliff House Restaurant in Browns Point. Then, we climb up Slayden Road and have a series of rollers before a nice downhill ride. The majority of our climbing is between mile 15 and 37 after which we have a blissful 30 miles of flat riding, much of it on the Interurban and Green River trails back to Renton. Lunch stop will be at the Starbucks near the Fred Meyer in Sumner, a perfect time for an iced beverage, coffee or otherwise!
Rest Stops, after starting in Renton, will be as follows:
Steel Lake Park in Federal Way, Mile 18.6
QFC in North Tacoma, near Browns Point, Mile 33
Starbucks in the same shopping center as the Fred Meyer in Sumner, Mile 48.2. NOTE: Bike thefts have occurred in this area. Please do not leave your bike unlocked or unattended.
Three Friends Fishing Hole Park in Kent, Mile 68.2.
Other cautions are indicated in the Ride with GPS Map point of interest icons. NOTE: Be sure to reload the RWGPS route late in the week to be sure you have the latest updates to the route.
Now for the Cascade Bicycle Club reminders:
