Cascade Training Series
CTS 2026 Yellow #2: South Lake Loop
Registration Now Open
... participants registered
Let's meet at the Newport Hills Park & Ride. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This ride will take us around Mercer Island and the south end of Lake Washington in a counter clockwise direction. We will start by exiting the Park & Ride and head north toward the I-90 trail. We will make a stop at Newcastle Beach Park and then from there we head across the I-90 bridge short span to begin the loop around Mercer Island. This is a well loved classic route with views of the lake but the shoulders are narrow so we will take extra care. Then we cross the longer span of the I-90 bridge to Seattle; there is a grand photo op at the west end so have your cameras ready! We then travel south along Lake Washington where we hope the cherry trees will be in full bloom. The route progresses through Renton and around the south end of the Lake. We will take a last optional restroom stop at Gene Coulon Park, ride past the Seahawk Athletic Center (a great photo) and back to Newport Hills P&R.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup occasionally.
Restrooms are not available at the start. We will make a restroom stop at Newcastle Beach Park at mile 1.1. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at mile 15.3 on the Mercer Island Lid and Gene Coulon Park at mile 31.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
