Leave the cars and traffic behind! Come ride in the Snoqualmie Tree Farm and see wildlife instead. In case you haven't heard gravel cycling is the best thing...ever! If you have a gravel or cross bike and you need to get it dirty, I encourage you to join in the adventure. This ride is hosted by a member of Cascade's High Performance Cycling.
If you are new to gravel grinding there are a few things to know. First, make sure you have at least two tubes, a multi-tool and enough air with you. Bring an extra layer. Conditions can change and it's better to bring a jacket and not need it than need a jacket and not have one. Bring food (there isn't a Starbucks along the route). Make sure your bike is up to the task: you will need at least 32mm tires for this ride (I use 40's), low gearing (some grades are over 15%), and good brakes. Make sure your fitness is up for a 6 hour ride. Only about 10% of this ride is on pavement. There is a one and a half mile flat and rocky section that might be challenging for some bikes, especially those with skinnier tires. We will get a little of everything in this ride--single track, jeep track, maybe even snow! Be advised you may not be in cell coverage during parts of the ride. And, make sure you are up for a really fun day in the forest. That's all the tough stuff. If you have other questions please feel free to ask.
A word about the pace: road paces do not translate well to gravel. You should think more in terms of effort level. Gravel rides like this can accommodate a wide range of abilities providing one has the base fitness for the length and amount of climbing in the route. I posted this ride as vigorous to appeal to vigorous and strenuous riders, and I expect we will have a fairly strong group. If you like to ride at a more comfortable pace you are still welcome to join us, we can ride together for quite a while. But, you should be prepared to self-navigate at some point. This is not difficult with a GPS device which is strongly recommended regardless (if you have to run old school, you can print a cue sheet from RideWithGPS). Please let me know beforehand I can provide you with a slightly shorter route option that skips a major climb, is an hour shorter, and is still really fun.
Other things I am required to mention: I ride in rain, I've ridden in snow, I hope it is clear, but if its not I'll probably go anyway. If the weather forces a cancellation I will post it here. In the event of a cancellation the ride leader will not be at the start. I do not plan to monitor this page for comments (except in the event of cancellation). If you would like to let me know you're coming or to learn about any changes please contact me via email, or visit the motion.social event page(https://motion.social/event/5113104140599296).
