What We Need
Cascade Bicycle Club is seeking a dedicated youth advocate/educator and bicycling enthusiast to serve as a Major Taylor Project Coordinator (King County). The Major Taylor Project (MTP) Coordinator will serve this dynamic, well-established, and respected organization by demonstrating a passion for bicycling and for growing the influence and impact of the organization’s mission.
Reporting to the Major Taylor Project Manager, the Major Taylor Project (MTP) Coordinator will coordinate three to seven MTP bicycling clubs, creating a supportive cohort, and will mentor Project Ride Leaders and volunteers in facilitating MTP on behalf of Cascade Bicycle Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The MTP Coordinator will seek and facilitate related leadership opportunities for students in the community while understanding the bike as a tool for transformation and social justice. The MTP Coordinator will have an established track record of building relationships in diverse communities, balancing multiple tasks, and working with historically-marginalized youth.
Candidates with bicycle mechanical experience desired.
Bilingual candidates (e.g. Spanish, Amharic, Portuguese) strongly desired.

Cascade Bicycle Club, the nation's largest statewide bicycle nonprofit, is 10,000-members, 56-years old, and 58-staff strong, serving bike riders of all ages and abilities throughout the state of Washington. We teach the joys of bicycling, advocate for safe places to ride, and produce community rides and events. The Major Taylor Project is a youth development program within the Education Department at Cascade Bicycle Club.The Education department shares the joy of cycling with young people across Washington state. We are dedicated to creating, sharing, and improving programs that are inclusive, impactful, and responsive to our diverse community.
The Major Taylor Project works to break down barriers to cycling for youth of color. We believe that bicycling is a form of exercise that fosters not only healthy bodies and minds, but also healthy communities. Students that participate in our free-of-cost program also have the opportunity to receive a bicycle and safety equipment free-of-cost.
MTP students are encouraged to use the bicycle to expand their worldview and explore the agency they have to change themselves and their communities. Programming takes place at partnering schools and community-based organizations throughout King and Pierce county.
MTP Program Personnel
MTP works in school districts across two “regions”, King County and Pierce County. Both regions have the following support personnel structure:
- Regional Manager
- Full time role, office & field based
- Responsible for yearly planning, program goals and quality assurance, reporting and personnel and budget management
- Regional Coordinator(s)
- Full or part-time role, depending on need, mix of office and direct service
- Responsible for day-to-day coordination, recruitment, curriculum facilitation, supply stewardship, and site coordination for out-of-school time program
- Meet weekly on-site with students
- Supports in leading various MTP activities such as MTP Internships, MTP events and recreational riding
- Ride Leaders
- Part-time/seasonal direct service role
- Meet weekly on-site with students
- Plan and support weekly rides and engagement activities
- Volunteers
- Support Ride Leaders by organizing club supplies and ensuring students are supported safely on rides

What You’ll Bring
Duties and Responsibilities
- Program Coordination
- Under the supervision of the MTP Manager (King County), coordinate, support, and collaborate with the MTP Ride Leaders in Seattle, Highline and Renton School Districts, ensuring Club success (via materials distribution, organization strategies, scheduling, bike fleet coordination, and regular check-ins)
- Deliver supplies to program sites, including loading bikes into and on top of a van and driving to various locations
- Collaborate and communicate with school leadership and teachers, after school program coordinators, students and parents/guardians to ensure that programming activity aligns with school and youth calendars
- Coordinate and/or lead student outreach efforts with Ride Leaders
- Assist in Ride Leader training and orientation events, building a culture that is inclusive and welcoming for all participants
- Facilitate bicycling education regarding:
- Learning to ride a bicycle
- Using a bicycle as safe, active transportation
- Bicycle maintenance/assembly
- In collaboration with the MTP team, plan, coordinate, and lead MTP recreational events and seasonal field trips, such as cyclocross races, Cascade major rides, and youth leadership retreats. This may include transporting students to/from and during events.
- Staff 2-3 weekly clubs
- Program Organization & Resource Stewardship
- Evaluate and administer program data collection methods to support data-driven decision-making and program growth
- Maintain and organize program supply inventory at multiple locations, and ensure the safety of all equipment throughout the duration of the MTP season (eg:. Helmet safety checks)
- Coordinate with multiple program partners, including the Fleet Logistics team, regarding numerous programmatic details and logistics – both electronically and face-to-face
- Work with the communications team to promote and advertise MTP programming using the numerous networking resources available to Cascade staff (i.e. newsletters, website, social media, blog, volunteer portal, etc.)
- Keep electronic and physical materials/resources organized, functional, up-to-date, and accessible.
- Work to develop organizational practices and systems which support a legacy of shared information, knowledge, and access – both written and electronically within the Cascade Google Drive
- Youth Development & Enrichment
- Work collaboratively with Ride Leaders to pursue opportunities for youth to learn and engage with their local communities, organizations and advocacy opportunities
- Support MTP Youth Interns in leadership development, job readiness, and developing tangible skills towards their employment goals
- Facilitate and mentor Ride Leaders in pre-and-post ride/event reflection methodology
- Model conflict resolution strategies and support all team members in navigating program successes and challenges
- Support other activities in the Education department
- Volunteer Coordination
- Facilitate regular communication with volunteers for programming support
- Work with MTP Manager and Volunteer Management team to recruit, train, and schedule volunteers

Qualifications
- One year of program coordination or experience in youth education/development in formal or informal settings
- Understanding of and demonstrated abilities working with culturally diverse communities on social justice initiatives
- Experience working with youth, especially between the ages of 12 and 18
- Desire and skill to work with youth between the ages of 12 to 18
- Experience teaching, leading, or facilitating a group
- Basic bike safety knowledge, riding capabilities and ride leading (or similar)
- Valid WA Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days
- Must pass a background check for work directly with minors
- Ability to lift 50 lbs one to three times per week in the form of moving 10-50 bicycles to/from storage or on/off trucks and trailers
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors, during all seasons
Desired Qualifications

- Experience with bicycle repair and/or maintenance

- Lived experience in the communities where MTP operates

Job Details
This position is full time or part-time over, hourly non-exempt and remote-hybrid eligible. Residence in Washington state is required.The workload for this position requires a mix of in-office/work from home (40%) and field-based work (60%). The working hours for the MTP Coordinator have some flexibility and will have the ability to occasionally work from home, provided there is no loss to team collaboration, the needs of the organization, and the essential functions of the position.
Some weekend and evening work and flexible time will be required for this position. We are open to hiring this position at either .75 FTE or 1.0 FTE, depending on final candidate interest and organization requirements. An example 32 hour work week below:
- Sunday: Off
- Monday: 9a-3p (Meeting heavy Administrative Day) 6 hours
- Tuesday: 11:30a-5:30p (Prep for club and join after school club in Renton) 6 hours
- Wednesday: 10a-6p (Prep for club and join after school club in Seattle) 8 hours
- Thursday: 12p-6p (Shop for supplies, lesson prep and fleet support) 7 hours
- Friday: 10a-3p (All Staff Day - happens once/month) 5 hours
- Saturday: Off
Commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, the salary range is $28.13-$39.38 per hour, along with a competitive benefits package. New hires typically start between minimum and midpoint ($28.13-$33.76 per hour).

What You’ll Bring
Duties and Responsibilities
30% – Identify Prospects and Grow Major Gift Pipeline
- Design and maintain systems to proactively identify, qualify, and cultivate prospects with the capacity to give $1,500 or more
- Conduct prospect research using donation records, prospect screenings, and other internal and external sources
- Partner with board members, development colleagues, program staff, the Executive Director, and volunteers to surface new prospects and build relationships
- Plan and execute regular donor cultivation events and mission-based experiences to introduce prospective major gift donors to Cascade’s mission
60% – Direct Fundraising Responsibilities
- Directly generate or support the delivery of 20-30% of Cascade Bicycle Club’s Development Department revenue through major gift solicitation
- Support colleagues on the generation of an additional 10-15% of Cascade Bicycle Club’s Development Department revenue through corporate grants, matched giving (including volunteer matches), and events-based fundraising.
- Partner closely with Development Director to plan and execute a regular appeals cadence to ensure year-round cash flow
- Manage a portfolio of 150-200 active major gift donors and prospects, including family foundations and key connectors
- Create tailored appeals and stewardship plans that address the specific interests and priorities of especially high-impact donors and align with Cascade's mission and Community Centric Fundraising principles
- Create and implement customized, multi-year engagement and solicitation plans; document all activity in the Salesforce CRM
- Conduct regular donor meetings to execute qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
- Collaborate with program staff to develop compelling solicitation materials and donor reports
- Provide effective stewardship through impact reporting, meaningful engagement opportunities, and strategic follow-up
- Plan and execute regular donor cultivation events and mission-based experiences to demonstrate philanthropic impact to existing donors and deepen engagement
- Support the success of Cascade’s regular fundraising events (including the Bike Everywhere Luncheon) by recruiting and supporting table captains, securing major gift commitments and matching funds, and contributing to program content
10% – Support Planned Giving Program
- Collaborate with Development Director and Board to develop a robust planned giving program coupled with a new quasi-endowment strategy
- Develop and implement outreach and marketing strategies for legacy giving across media
- Identify and cultivate planned giving prospects from Cascade’s donor base
- Steward existing legacy donors through personalized outreach and engagement opportunities
- Develop and maintain organized records of legacy prospects and confirmed planned gifts to support stewardship and program growth
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

- Proficiency with CRM systems required (Salesforce experience a plus)
- Donor communication experience preferred

JOB DETAILS
This position is full-time exempt and remote-hybrid eligible. Generally, work can be done off-site, provided there is no loss to team collaboration, the needs of the organization, and the essential functions of the position. However, residence in Washington state and the ability to come into the office one day per week are required. Some weekend and evening work (on average one weekend and 1-2 evenings per month) is required. Typical weekly hours for this position are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, the salary range is $84,066- $126,099. New hires typically start between minimum and midpoint ($84,066-$105,082).
