Lighted bike parades to check out holiday lights are a Tacoma tradition! Thank you to Tacoma Washington Bicycle Club (TWBC) for the inspiration and route planning. Special thanks to Eric Schytter for scouting out the good displays and sharing his insider knowledge. Thank you also to the ladies who pre-rode this with me a few years ago when the decorations on the residential streets of University Place and Fircrest were being put up.
We'll meet in front of the University Place Library at 4:30pm for introductions and pre-ride safety briefing. We'll start riding as soon as that is done. You may only ride with the group if you were there for the safety briefing. If you are coming by car, there's free parking available in the parking garage. Our start and end location is near Bliss Small Batch Creamery, MOD pizza and Whole Foods Market - optional post ride socializing in the festive plaza in front of the library.
We'll try to stay together, but we might get spaced out a bit on hills. This is a social, no drop ride - we will re-group as soon as we can if we become separated.
Helmets are required! We will be out after dark: White front headlight and choice of red rear tail light or reflector (light recommended) are also required for this ride. Other lights are encouraged, but are optional - please make sure that any decorations added to your set-up do not hinder your safe operation of your bike. Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Other items to bring: ID, a charged cell phone, water, cash/credit card, a face covering, a small snack, kleenex, wipes, hand sanitizer.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride at least two hours before the start time and will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
