Routes

Starting at the Kent/James St Park & Ride this is a challenging yet fun ride with some gorgeous views and great downhills combined with long flat stretches. Great downhills do come with a price however, there will be climbing, mostly early in the ride after a four-mile warm up, then onto the downhills. We will be rolling in quiet wooded areas, with a photo stop at Dash Point. We make a final climb at mile forty-seven prior to dropping downhill past Lake Fenwick Park and back to the Park and Ride. In the event of damp weather fenders with mud flaps are appreciated by all. Ride will be canceled in the event of steady rain, decision will be made two hours prior and posted on Cascade web site, Ride Leader will not be at start in event of cancellation. Please check web site before going to start. Join me for a fun spin on a new route. Please arrive early enough to prepare your bike and attend the safety briefing.

Stops:

  • Steel Lake Annex (5-minute mile 9.7)
  • Optional Lighthouse Market Tacoma (10-minute mile 19.6)
  • Starbucks Sumner (20 minutes mile 34.7)

Comments

Great Ride Jake, thank you!!

Some suggestions for getting thru Federal Way.  Federal Way has always had a problem with E-W traffic due to limited arterials. The segment of this ride that goes on S Dash Point Rd has many aggressive drivers, limited medians, pinch points and limits sight distances. Suggest avoiding this segment by turning left on 10th Ave S and then right on S 312th St then pick up the route at SW Dash Point Rd. Although 312th S is also a main arterial it provides a large consistent median for bikes and the drivers are much less aggressive.

In the Tacoma mud flats consider another option is to turn off 509 at E 11th St, cross the Hylebos bridge and turn left on to Taylor Way. Although Taylor Way is a bit rough and has high truck traffic on weekdays this route avoids the fast heavy traffic on 509/Marine View Dr. However both options are not great.

Hard to make improvements on it though - Again, I really enjoyed this ride.
