Join the MUMPS to ride the Lake Washington loop route clockwise from Log Boom Park, with a coffee/food stop. This moderate paced ride will follow the same route as the brisk MUMPS ride. Riders may choose to start with the brisk group and wait for the moderate group if they prefer to slow down. The pace is 14-16 MPH, no wind; slower uphill, faster down and we will observe the speed limit on the multi-use trails. Riders are welcome to climb the hills at their own pace and regroup safely at the top.
There is a four hour parking restriction in the park. If you are concerned about exceeding the time limit you may park on NE 175th St before the entrance to the park. There are bathrooms at the park.
We’ll head to Juanita Drive for a warm-up climb beginning at the 1.1 mile mark and continue to Kirkland, with a rest stop at Marina Park. From Kirkland we continue south to Bellevue, then toward Renton with a stop at Coulon Park before circling the southern tip of Lk. WA and Boeing in Renton, turning north to Seward Park along Lk WA to our final stop at the Leshi Starbucks for about 20 min. Our final section will take us by the Arboretum and behind UW Stadium then the Burke Gilman trail back to Log Boom.
Contact the ride leader by text if you plan to join the group at a point other than the starting location (in case we change the route). Depending on weather and mood of the group, the route may be shortened to cross the lake on I-90 trail or the WA 520 trail.
The goal is to stay together, but please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own. The ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group. The route/cue sheet is at the link below. It will not be handed out at the start, so please download or print it if you want it during the ride. Feel free to bring my cell phone number so you can text me (I don't answer calls while riding) in case you have a problem while off the back.
Bring snacks. There are 3 planned restroom stops, but only a 20 min stop at Starbucks..
If rain is expected or the roads are wet, please be considerate of other riders' comfort and safety by using full fenders that extend at/below the wheel hub. You may still ride with us without them, but if you are spraying other riders you will need to drop to the back of the group.
Please come with the equipment and know-how to take care of your own flats and mechanicals or with a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there. If you have a problem the group will stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own.
Please register in advance by clicking the red Register Now button at the top of this page, as this saves time at the start and enables the leader to email you in case of changes. (You need a Cascade Bicycle Club account, and starting one makes you a Basic-level member of the Club at no charge. Or you can register manually at the start.) You don't have to un-register if you can't make the ride.
Please be ready to ride at least 10 minutes before the start time for the SMART safety talk, route discussion, and introductions, so we can roll out without delay.
Cancellation: Forecast for rain, snow, ice/frost or other unsafe riding conditions will be cause for cancellation, in which case the ride leader will not be at the start at Log Boom Park. The cancellation will be posted (in Comments, below) at least 2 hours before the start.
