This is a gravel ride and though the pace might be Moderate (14-16) on the flats, since it is mostly gravel, the actual effort will be more like road Brisk (16-18) and the short steep climbs can feel like Vigorous (18-20) so don't underestimate the route.
Mountain bikes are welcome.
I will be riding on 33c Cyclocross tires (bigger is better) anything less will mean a higher probability of walking some climbs or descents.
I've taken the early 2.5 major climbs (Heart Attack Hill) out for this first outing, but plan on adding them back in later weeks. This route should help anyone preparing for the Stinky Spoke ride in January or those who just want to continue getting stronger on hills.
We begin southbound on the Sammamish River Trail, then ride the road to the top of Hollywood Hill intersecting the Tolt Pipeline trail all the way to the Redmond Watershed and transitioning to the Power Line trail back to the Sammamish River Trail and Woodinville. NOTE: We might have a short detour around mile 5.5 due to trail construction, but should be easily navigated. Riders climb and descend at their own pace. Please plan your travel to be ready to ride 15 minutes before start time so we can have the safety talk and get on the road.
Sorry, but there is no food, water or bathroom other than at the start and finish.
A RideWithGPS route map with cue sheet is at the link. If you want a cue sheet, please print it. Bring ID; spare tube, tools, patch kit, pump, and skills to fix flats. It's a good idea to have a phone and a plan for rescue if your bike fails. If conditions are wet, roostertails are a safety issue for other riders. Fenders with long mudflaps show that you care.
Please RSVP by clicking on the red Register Now button at the top of this page. This will save time at the ride start.
Due to frequency of spam calls, the listed phone number isn't answered. Please text if you need to contact me on the morning of the ride. If weather conditions meet the Showers Cancel criteria, I will post a ride-cancelled notice in Comments, below, two hours prior. Please check here before going to the start.
