Cycle the Gap is a series of five Saturday rides beginning July 14 (following the conclusion of 2018 Cascade Training Series (CTS)) to help riders prepare for the RSVP, RAW, and other challenging rides. We have chosen five of the best rides from the CTS series to ride again. We will have two different paces (Yellow/Steady, 12-14 mph on flats and Green/Moderate, 14-16 mph on flats). These are part of the club’s Free Group Rides program and are open to everyone. Join us for one, or two rides, or be a real trooper and ride all five. You decide what works for you.
Registration: Please be sure to register on the club page by clicking the red Register Now button at the top of the page at least 24 hours before the ride start. That will really help us at the start of the ride. We try to have at least two or three ride leaders per pace, and your registering helps us know if we need to secure additional ride leaders.
The Route for the Day: The third ride of the series will add some mileage and climbing; covering 74 miles with a minimum of 3000 feet of elevation gain. The route will start at the Newport Hills P&R; from there, we’ll begin with gentle climbs to make our way onto the roads in May Valley, Cedar Grove, Ravensdale, Cumberland, and Black Diamond. Before we arrive in Black Diamond, there is a spectacular view of the Green River Gorge, where we’ll all have a great opportunity to take photos. After enjoying the views, we’ll head to the Black Diamond Bakery, which has delicious pastries, cakes, pies, and great coffee (we can enjoy a scoop of ice cream on a warm day, which is also available at the bakery). After our food stop, we will ride in Maple Valley, Cedar River Trail, and the streets in Renton. Our ride concludes with some rolling hills at the south east side of Lake Washington and a gentle climb to return to the P&R. Please note that there are no bathrooms at the start!!
Ride With GPS Link and Cue Sheet: The tentative links to these are below. Final links, or confirmation of these, will be posted in the comments section on this page the Tuesday before the ride.
The Basics: As customary for all Cascade rides, please make sure you wear a helmet and necessary gear and knowledge to fix any flats you may get along the way. The group will not stop to repair flats or mechanical issues, but the sweeps will ensure you have a cue sheet to continue the ride.
These rides are not supported. There will be short rest stops and a food stop along the route; come prepared with your own food and beverages.
Please arrive 20 minutes early to hear the safety briefing, sign the waiver and to ensure you are ready to ride on time.

Apres-Velo Gathering After CTG Ride
Happy Friday Eve Everyone: Hope you all are staying cool due to the heatwave this week.
I would like to let you all know that there will be an apres-velo gathering after Saturday's ride. If you are in the mood for pizza, this the place to go to:
Resonate Pizzeria and Brewery
There are other food items in the restaurant, and the food and service over there are very good.
Here is the menu: Resonate Pizzeria and Brewery Menu
The address of the restaurant is:
5606 119th Ave SE #A, Bellevue, WA 98006 (it is approx 1.3 miles from the Newport Hills P&R)
The staff over there is aware we plan to be there. The first group that finishes the ride and is interested in going, you can go in there and let them know that the reservations is under my name. Looking forward to seeing you before the ride, and hopefully you can join in on all the fun, food and drinks! :-)
Checklist for Tomorrow's CTG Training Ride
Happy Friday Everyone: Hope you all are ready for tomorrow's CTG training ride. Here is a list of things I suggest you all do your best to follow in order to have a great ride:
1. For today
Make sure to hydrate and carb-load. Also, have your bike ready (check tire pressure, brakes, etc.); make a copy of the cue sheet (in case you forget to bring it with you tomorrow, I will provide copies); make sure to have the most recent RWGPS route downloaded into your bike computer. The most recent RWGPS route and most recent map and cue sheet can be found under the comments section, titled "Final RWGPS Route, Map and Cue Sheet"
2. For tomorrow:
Make sure you have everything ready (you, your bike and all the items needed for this ride, such as water, food, electrolytes, sunscreen, money (Black Diamond Bakery; minumum of $5 for credit card usage) and water (QFC in Maple Valley) to purchase, etc.) to bring with you at the ride. Please make sure you are at the start no later then 8:15am so that you sign the waiver (or have your name checked off if you electronically signed it in advance), can listen to the safety briefing, and are at the pace group you want to ride with (and that we start at 8:30am sharp).
3. After the ride:
There will be an apres-velo gathering at Resonate Pizzeria and Brewery. All info for the restaurant is provided under the comments section, titled "Apres-Velo Gathering After the Ride"
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning!!! :-D
Water Available for Purchase at the Tiger Mountain Country Store
I forgot to mention to please bring money for water available for purchase at the Tiger Mountain Country Store (they do accept credit cards).
Hi Marizel and Michael, I
Hi Marizel and Michael, I will not be able to ride CTG tomorrow. I am very disappointed but I have to work. I work late tonight thinking I could get my project done but I didn’t. I will ride the next CTG. You all have a great ride and keep hydrated.
