The Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, Harbor WildWatch and the Harbor History Museum have teamed up to provide excellent free walking tours of the historical downtown waterfront. The Wednesday night walk - From Skiffs to Spirits - is an hour long guided tour telling the history of Gig Harbor's net sheds, fishing fleet and the effects of prohibition in the harbor. Following the tour there is an optional tasting at Gig Harbor's Heritage Distilling Company. The plan is to meet at the history museum and bike Cushman Trail and a bit of downtown before the tour. The route is mostly on the trail (link below). There are some hills - we'll take them at our own pace and regroup after.
If you are coming by car, you have permission to park in the museum's parking lot. We will not be taking our bikes on the walking tour - if you are going on the tour, be sure to have a way to secure your bike at the museum (there is a bike rack, bring a lock unless you are putting a bike back into a locked vehicle). The walking tour is just over a mile and will take about an hour. You might want to bring a pair of walking shoes or cleat covers if you are not comfortable walking in the shoes you bike in.
Please meet me in the parking lot in front of the museum at around 3:45 pm for a short safety talk and introductions.
Please register for the ride by clicking on the red "Register Now" button at the top. You do not need to be a Cascade member to register, you merely need to create a free account. There is no need to unregister if you can not make it. Newcomers are welcome! Please read our newcomer information (linked above) and feel free to comment below or contact me if you have any questions.
Helmets are required for all participants on Cascade Free Group rides. Some other good things to have: a charged cell phone, a credit card and some cash, ID, water and snacks, supplies to fix a flat (spare tube, pump, tire levers) fenders on your bike if roads are wet, front and back lights and the aforementioned bike lock and walking shoes.
Cancellation Policy: Steady rain cancels. If the ride is cancelled, the cancellation will be posted in the comments section below before 2pm and ride leader will not be at the start.
