Getting Ready to Ride -- North End #8 -- Everett Slough
If you are new, please read our newcomer information.
This route wraps up our Getting Ready to Ride series. It takes us from Mill Creek through Snohomish and up to Everett and back. The ride generally follows the route of the Snohomish River as if flows through the Snohomish Valley. It ends with a gentle but lenghty climb back to Willis D. Tucker Park, which will let our riders know just how much they've improved over the series.
The GR2R series will help you:
- Increase endurance and confidence
- Build hill-climbing skills
- Make new friends in the cycling community
- Gain confidence in riding safely with groups
- Get ready for the Cascade Training Series (CTS), which begins in April
- Be prepared for the bicycling season
- Have fun!
If you are new to bicycling, or if you have just been off your bike for a while, this is the series for you! GR2R rides are free and open to anyone. You will ride with others who share your pace level and your enthusiasm for riding. All rides will be led by Cascade Ride Leaders, experienced volunteers who enjoy riding, are knowledgeable about bike safety and the rules of the road, and who know the routes. These will be social, stay-together rides with waits at the top of hills and at all critical turns, along with some photo-op stops.
Please arrive 20 minutes early to get yourself ready, listen to the safety briefing, and sign or check the waiver. 10:00 is roll-out time.
In addition to steady rain, ice/snow and any other hazardous conditions will cancel a ride. If a ride is cancelled due to hazardous conditions, the notice will be posted here, in the comments section below, by 8:00 a.m. on the day of the ride. If that notice is posted, the ride leaders will not be at the start.
There will be a bathroom at the ride start. We can also make a restroom stop along the route if needed. All riders should bring enough snacks and water, and come equipped to deal with their own mechanical issues. Waiting for mechanical issues will be at the discretion of the ride leader. It's winter, so please dress appropriately and use fenders on your bike. If you haven't ridden your bike for quite some time, please do an ABC check (link below) or take it to your local bike shop a few days prior to the ride date.
We will post the final version of the route and the cue sheet a few days prior to the ride date, in the comment section below.
