We are pleased to announce Cycling Out Of Sumner (COOS) will be running as a spring training series for 2017.
COOS runs for thirteen Saturdays, from April 8th through July 8th (except the day of Cascade's Flying Wheels event ride). The purpose of COOS is to have fun while building endurance and strength, and to learn essential safe group riding skills. The rides will incrementally increase in distance, leading up to a century. Along the way we will enjoy the simple pleasures of riding and meeting new friends. Paces are listed above. All paces will use a common route each week.
THIS WEEK'S RIDE: We start with a mostly flat ride north to Kent using a combination of trails and road. We will loop around on the Green River Rd to Auburn for a coffee stop at Green River Cyclery & Busted Bike Cafe. There are bathrooms at the start, located inside Fred Meyer. We will have rest stops at WalMart, Mile 9.5, and Green River Cyclery, Mile 21.
Please register for the ride using the red "Register Now" button at the top of this page. Registration is not mandatory but it allows us to print the rider list beforehand and helps us save time at the ride start. On-line registration closes two hours prior to ride time, and if you decide to ride after that we will have a waiver sheet for you to sign manually.
If you are a new rider, we are very happy to have you with us. Please read the New Rider link, below, and keep in mind that a helmet is required on all Cascade rides. Also, riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire. Everyone should carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. We will regroup after climbs and at major intersections.
Arrive at least 30 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready, sign the waiver, and listen to the S.M.A.R.T. briefing. This allows us to have an on-time departure.
Be considerate and have full fenders including mud flaps if roads are wet or a prediction of rain is in the forecast.
A route map and cue sheet are at the Ride With GPS link, below. If you want a cue sheet please print and bring it. The ride leader will not have extra copies.
Cancellation Policy: If needed, a weather cancellation will be posted two hours prior in the Comments section, below, and the ride leader will not be at the start. Please check here before leaving for the ride.

Hello, Patty I attended the Ride Leader Cert class, and I would like to know if you and Rick would be my mentors?

Ride leader for Strenous to Super Strenous
Hi Patty,
Do you think there would be any interest in having a Strenuous or Super Strenuous leader for series rides like COOS?
The 22+ mph crowd does not have very many options. In the past I have informally led the Tuesday/Thursday fast group on their evening rides. Currently I believe the Tuesday/Thursday group is the only Cascade ride to offer a super strenuous pace.
Thanks!
John

Great question, John! Are you thinking of becoming a Ride Leader? I will chat with the vigorous group tomorrow to get their thoughts, please join me!
Build it and they will come!
