Come join us for a scenic southern loop out of Bellingham. We'll tour through Western Washington University and Fairhaven, ride down Chuckanut Drive, stop in historic Edison, and ride the shores of Lake Samish and Lake Whatcom. Then join us directly after the ride for no-host food and drinks at Chuckanut Brewery.

NOTE: This is the first day of a fun weekend in Whatcom County. The second day we plan to ride from Glacier to Artist Point. Come join us for one or both days.

Start Location: Please park in the SW corner of the Civic Field Athletic Complex (away from the stadium). There are restrooms available at the start.

Route/Cue Sheet: See link below. Riders should print out or download a copy of the cuesheet in case they get separated from the group.

Pace: Brisk [16-18 mph on the flats]). Please see ride calendar on 8/12/17 for other paces offered for this ride. Riders should print out or download their own cue sheets and be prepared to ride on their own if they are unable to keep pace.

Mechanicals: Please be prepare to deal with your own flats and mechanicals and have the necessary equipment. There will be no sag support on this ride.

Requirements: Riders need to show up at least 20 minutes early to get parking, sign the waiver, and hear route notes. Helmets and proper cycling gear are required. You must carry enough water and food to carry you between rest stops (limited food).

RSVP: Please register for this ride using the register button on this page. Also please RSVP on Meetup (link below) so that we get a sense of how many riders to expect and organize enough ride leaders.

Ride Leader Contact: Cathy Henley @ 206-249-6483

Cancellation: In the event of steady rain or some other major weather event, the Ride Leaders will not be at the ride start. Please check the comment area in this posting 2 hours prior to the ride for ride cancellation announcements.

Rest Stops: mp 21 (food), 31, 44, 58. This is a rural route and it will be hot, so bring plenty of water and food. Limited snacks available at most rest stops.

Comments

Note from Alexa Volwiler on Sunday Artist Point Ride:
Weather forecast for Sunday looks like it is turning with potential moisture coming into the area + cold temps on the mountain. If there is rain in the forecast, we will cancel this ride. However, the Saturday ride the day before is still on and there are a lot of cycling/hiking/water opportunities in the area if you are planning to stay the weekend. I will make the official call tomorrow. I will offer an alternative, self-guided route for those who want to do a local ride. (Please monitor the Sunday Artist Point Ride for updates).

Sat Ride in Bellingham is still on!

DUE TO POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE SUNDAY RIDE TO ARTIST POINT IS CANCELLED. Note: For those staying in the Bellingham area for the weekend after the Saturday ride (which is still scheduled), there are plenty of riding, hiking, eating and shopping opportunities. One route you may consider doing on your own on Sunday is a loop ride north to Lynden and down along the coast: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/411929
