RSVP 1 rider makes full recovery

Two weeks ago after celebrating the accomplishment of riding from Seattle to Vancouver, an RSVP 1 rider suffered a heart attack on the return bus ride near Everett. Luckily for him, he was surrounded by three people trained in CPR and another made the immediate call to 911.

The Rogers family sent the following letter of thanks to be shared with the Cascade community, as they do not have any other way to contact those who jumped in to help:

After completing Ride from Seattle to Vancouver and Pary (RSVP 1), my brother suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on the bus ride home.

Due to the quick, calm and skillful actions of our fellow cyclists, he survived without any damage to his heart, and he returned home from the hospital [on Monday, Aug. 24].

Unfortunately, we do not know the names of all who helped, but appreciate the prayers, kind words and supportive actions of those on the bus and our driver, Virginia.

To those who called 911 and to the man who relayed the dispatcher’s directions to the rest of us, we are deeply appreciative. We want to specifically thank Kevin, Ben and the family practice physician who performed CPR and saved his life. At the emergency room, the cardiologist was very clear that CPR saved my brother’s life.

Our gratitude is beyond expression.
