TONIGHT: Come take a look at the 12th Avenue NE Neighborhood Greenway

Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is hosting a Project Open House TONIGHT about a potential greenway along 12th Avenue NE.
SDOT is seeking community input about the proposed neighborhood greenway in the U District and creating a connection for people who walk or ride bikes between Ravenna Boulevard and the Burke-Gilman Trail.
Initial review of data, including the 2013 U District Urban Design Framework report, and visits to the neighborhood suggest 12th Avenue NE would work well, and now SDOT wants to hear from you.
Improvements being considered include:

  • Crossing improvements at NE 50th, 47th, 45th, and 43rd streets
  • Traffic calming with speed humps (about one per block)
  • 20 mph speed signs
  • New stops signs to control east-west residential street traffic crossing the greenway
  • Sidewalk and pavement repair

In related news, SDOT recently received a grant to install a new traffic signal at the intersection of 12th Avenue NE and NE 50th Street. The signal will make it easier and safer for people to cross the intersection. Installation is expected to happen in 2014.

Please attend tonight's Open House to speak up for safe and convenient neighborhood connections for people of all ages and abilities.
