The Greenwood-Phinney Greenways group announced it will install a “pop-up greenway” along 1st Avenue NW between 65th Street and 80th street tomorrow to give neighbors a taste of what a greenway looks and feels like.

Funded in part by the Neighborhood Matching Grant from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, this project is a first of its kind in Seattle intended to educate the public about how greenways can improve a neighborhood.
Robin Randels of Greenwood-Phinney Greenways said the plan is to test-ride the project for three weeks, learn a few things, then create a more durable DIY Kit that other neighborhoods around the city and county can use before a permanent greenway is built.
During the pop-up greenway demonstration period, neighbors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in greenway living and provide feedback.
The temporary installation of the pop-up greenway along 1st Avenue NW is set to debut Friday, Aug. 9, during the 2013 PhinneyWood Summer Streets Celebration.
