Saturday, Sept 7, marked the official opening of Ballard’ first greenway, a project that had been in the works since January 2012. The project started when SDOT first announced a set of pilot neighborhood greenways which included Ballard’s NW 58th St in its consideration.

With a ceremonious snip of the ribbon, Mayor Mike McGinn unleashed greenway dozens of kids on bikes onto the greenway, which is just over two miles in length and improves bicycle and pedestrian access to parks, schools, shops, restaurants and services (see map).

This greenway is one of several that were proposed by the Seattle Neighborhood Greenways organization as a key corridor for improving pedestrian and bicycle access in the heart of Ballard.

Celebratory activities a bike rodeo for kids, Cascade’s bike blender, booths, walking tours, Kidical Mass and Spokespeople bike rides and more.

Thanks you, Mayor McGinn and SDOT for  making NW 58th Street safer and more comfortable for people of all ages and abilities!
