Fourth of July bike rides

The Fourth of July is a fun holiday all across America but its hold on the hearts of Seattleites is exceptional as it’s often the day summer really begins around here.

While we’ve already had some pretty spectacular days this year by July 4, nice weather is practically guaranteed.  So here you are with a day off work and the promise of good weather.  What better plan to make than a bike ride?! We've got at least four great options for you to suit your time of day, distance or pace preference.

If you want to start your morning with a ride, you have three possibilities:

- Lico’s Freedom Ride will start from 200 Mill Ave S. in Renton.  This moderate paced 56-mile-ride  wanders through the rural beauty of the Green River Valley area, includes a few hills and a lunch stop at the yummy Black Diamond Bakery.

- Want fewer miles at the same pace?  Meet Jake at 502 Burnett Ave S. in Renton for a 40 miler.  This ride along the Green River Trail and through South Park will make a coffee stop at Tully’s in Alki.

- Prefer a slightly slower pace?  Michelle will head out of Magnuson Park for a 28 mile steady paced Seward Park Loop.  This ride includes bike paths, residential roads and the lovely view of the lake as you approach Seward Park.  There will be a coffee stop in Leschi on the return ride.

Or perhaps you’re looking for an evening challenge?

- Meet Eric and his regular riders at Marymoor east lot (which boasts free parking!).  Every week this hardy group takes a hilly brisk paced ride. This 20-to-30-mile jaunt is a great way to work off  Fourth of July barbecue indulgences.

If you are unclear what the difference is between steady, moderate or brisk pace, you can read a description on the Cascade website. Should showers rain down on our Fourth of July parades, these rides will be cancelled.

Looking for more riding opportunities? All Cascade free daily rides are published online. Everyone is welcome, but if you’re new, please read through our information for newcomers and parents.
