Pedal Power Thursday

Mountlake Terrace Elementary School students and staff love their wheels.

From Wheels Club on Thursdays to Basics of Bicycling in PE, students are excited about Bike Month.

May has been busy, with back-to-back bike related activities. Free helmets for the entire school, a big bike safety assembly, a sunny weekend bike rodeo where four kids learned to ride on two wheels and Pedal Power Thursdays which encourages Mountlake Terrace students to roll to school.

Principal Doug Johnson hyped up Bike Month to his students, promising a treat for students who "wheeled" to school (bike or scooter) on Thursdays.

Armed with doughnuts (inspired by Biker Doughnut Days at Eckstein), stickers, and two volunteers from the Edmonds Bicycle Advocacy Group (EBAG), Jan and Warren, we stickered, high-fived and celebrated the kids who rode to school.

50 bikes arrive at Mountlake Terrace Elementary School

50 bikes rolled into school on Bike to School Day this year!  Considering there were 2 bikes last year, I'd say great success!

Week two of Pedal Power Thursday brought 40 bikes.  We have just one more week left and I'm excited to see the bike racks full again!
