TOMORROW: Join us for Flying Wheels!

Saturday morning is our kick-off summer event,
the Flying Wheels Summer Century

Get out of the city and enjoy some of Puget Sound's finest rural riding on the largest century in Washington state. The Flying Wheels Summer Century presented by Raleigh is a true celebration of road biking with a finish line festival, and much more.

ROUTE OPTIONS

Each route will take you through lovely eastside scenery and great rest stops. Those who want hills should ride the 45-, 65- and 100-mile loops. For those looking for an easier, less hilly route, the 25-mile loop has only a few. [more info...] The course closes at 6 p.m., so remember to give yourself enough time to complete the route you choose.

START LINE & REGISTRATION

If you pre-registered and have your bib, be sure to complete the emergency contact information on the back. If you haven't received your bib, swing by the packet pick-up tent at the start line.

If you didn't register in advance, no problem. Join us at the start line from 7:30 to 11 a.m. to sign up. We accept cash, checks and credit cards. Come with a registration form already completed and save some time in line.

The start line is staggered based on route distances:

  • 7:30 to 9 a.m. for 100-mile riders
  • 9 to 10 a.m. for 65- and 45-mile riders
  • 10 to 11 a.m. for 25-mile riders

SAFETY ON THE COURSE

Remember, the roads on the Flying Wheels route are open to ALL traffic, and riders must follow all the rules of the road:

  • Stay to the right as much as possible.
  • Pass other riders on the left.
  • Obey all traffic signs and lights.
  • Ride no more than two abreast, and only when it is safe to do so. Ride single file where appropriate. Remember, SINGLE FILE IS SAFER especially when on a narrow road where cars or other bicyclists might want to be able to pass you.
  • Slow down and call out when passing.
  • Watch for cars pulling out of driveways, and allow drivers to exit.
  • Never ride with earphones or earbud(s). Pull off and stop when using a cell phone. These are not allowed while riding this event. Riders must be able to hear approaching traffic clearly or other riders calling out when passing.

FINISH LINE FESTIVAL

Food booths will open at 11:30 a.m., and the Festival will be in full swing by 1 p.m. The festivities will continue until 6:30 p.m.

Bring cash for post-event rubdowns, beer and food. Washington Sports Massage will be massaging tired bodies for $18 per 15 minute set. We'll also have a New Belgium beer garden and a morning coffee truck that will be selling orange juice, snack bars, and oatmeal.

Visit the Cascade booth to purchase event t-shirts or become a Cascade member. Remember, members get discounts on all Cascade events -- and membership fees support Cascade programs that make bicycling safer and more accessible to all.

GETTING THERE

Save the gas and add some miles. Bike to the start! Marymoor Park is easily accessible by bike via the Marymoor Connector Trail, which connects both the East Lake Sammamish Trail and the Sammamish River Trail to the start line area.

The start line and registration table are located in the East Marymoor Parking Lot near the east exit of the park. Take the West Lake Sammamish Parkway exit from SR-520 and enter the park through the main entrance. Once in the park follow the signs to the parking area. There is no rider parking in the East Marymoor Parking Lot. [map]

Parking this year is FREE for all Flying Wheels participants; however, we highly recommend riding your bike or car-pooling to the event. WSDOT's ride-sharing website makes it easy to connect with others headed to the event.
