Major Taylor's five-week Earn a Bike program at the YES Foundation of White Center wrapped up with thirteen students bringing home donated bikes that they had fixed up with the help of a skilled mechanic. Students learned how to identify all the parts of their bikes, fix flat tires, adjust their brakes, maintain their drivetrains and unpack a hub.
On a final quiz reviewing the material they had been taught, students showed a good retention of knowledge of how to perform basic maintenance on their bikes. Several of the students have been commuting to school and work on their bikes, and according to one of their teachers, they can't stop talking about their new wheels!
