Route:  We will ride north on the Burke-Gilman Trail (BGT) via Lake Forest Park, east past Bothell, on to Woodinville and then south to Redmond. Continuing west along the Highway 520 bike trail and over the Evergreen Point floating bridge. Then ride north behind Husky Stadium and return to Matthews Beach via the BGT.

Restrooms: Water and restrooms are available at the start. Logboom Park, Blyth Park, Wilmot Gateway Park at the University of Washington stop if needed. 

Terrain: generally flat but there is hill climbing between Redmond and the University of Washington on the 520 section.

Ride start: We meet at the Matthews Beach parking lot.  Please be ready to ride at 10:00 a.m. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. 

Fenders: If the roads are wet, please come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry or be the caboose.

Parking:  Free parking at Matthews Beach parking lot. Arrive early to beat the sea gulls for a good parking spot.

Pace:  The pace is moderate at 14 to 16 mph. We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup  at the top of the major 520 climbs. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 mph).

Food: Bring food or snacks to eat on the ride, there will be no lunch break.

Mechanical:  Be prepared to handle mechanical issues, if you have a problem e.g. flat tire.  Bring a spare tube, tools, patch kit, pump and skills to fix flats and have a mobile phone and a plan for rescue in case your bike fails. 

Cue sheets:  No cue sheets will be provided. A Ride With GPS map file and a cue sheet are available at the MAP link.  If you want a cue sheet, please print it and bring it along or download to your smartphone or device.

Weather cancelation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride location.

  • Riders under 18 years old require parental consent & approval from the Ride Leader.

What Pace Means

Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

Note: For rides with a “hilly” terrain classification, consider choosing a pace one step down from your usual comfort level.

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
