Leisurely riders may not be the fastest, but we can still climb! This ride is meant to be a nice mid-week workout, but with a bit less distance and climbing than the faster training rides so we can get home on time. (We also welcome newer riders who have ridden a similar distance on their own and would like to try a group ride with a more interesting and challenging route than the major trails.)
🧭 Start location: We'll start from the Redmond Senior & Community Center, meeting at the small plaza between the community center and the police station. There are restrooms available inside the community center. See the map for details.
🚗 Parking: Free parking is available on the ground floor of the Redmond Municipal Campus Parking Garage. Please do NOT park in the surface lots closest to the community center. See the map for details. (Due to traffic, you might consider riding to the start or taking the light rail.)
⌚ Ride Start: Be ready to ride at 6:00pm. We'll start with a safety briefing and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate—no joining late!
🚴♀️ Pace and regroups: As a leisurely ride, the pace will be max 12mph on flats, slower on climbs. Everyone can climb and descend hills at their own pace, and we'll regroup frequently. (If you'd like to go faster, check out the MEETS series!)
🗺️ Route: This week's route goes north on the Redmond Central Connector, up Education Hill and English Hill, over to Tuscany, and back through the Bear Creek area. The hills in the middle are long but not too steep. Please download the route to a GPS device or phone for navigation in case of separation due to flats or other problems.
🛠️ Mechanical issues: Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. The group may not make prolonged stops for mechanical issues. You must have a backup plan if roadside repairs are not sufficient—bring a charged cell phone to call for a pick-up or have other means to find your way home.
🔦 Lights: A working headlight and red taillight are required. If all goes well, we'll finish before dark, but in case of flats or other issues you may need lights at the end.
🎇 New Riders: New riders are welcome, but be aware this is intended as a training ride with some hills and riding in traffic (it's safer with a group!). Your bike must be in working order, and this shouldn't be your first ride of the season. Please take a look at the new rider information, and feel free to contact the ride leader with further questions.
🚻 Rest Stops: Restrooms are available at the start in the community center and are open until 9pm. There's an optional restroom stop at mile 13 if needed.
🌧️ Weather: If weather conditions meet the cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride, and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride. Occasionally, the ride may be cancelled at the ride start due to changing weather or road conditions.
☔ Fenders: If roads are wet or there's a chance of showers, fenders are recommended; fenders should be long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry.
