Join us on a transit-themed 4 mile bike ride from the International District to the Rainier Valley at a Leisurely (10-12 mph average on flat ground) pace!
We will meet on the brick plaza above the International District/Chinatown light rail station (501 South King Street, Seattle, WA 98104). Bike access is from the King Street greenway and protected bike lanes running from downtown off 5th Ave. Transit access is from Sound Transit's 1 Line light rail, the First Hill Streetcar, or a variety of King County Metro Bus routes (7, 13, 14, 36, 106). Parking can be found in nearby parking garages or paid on-street parking.
Please be ready to ride at 11:00 AM with required fare (cash/credit/ORCA card) for the light rail on the optional return trip. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that’s done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
We will first head to the I-90 Trail, ride through the I-90 Bike Tunnel, check out views of Lake Washington and the new light rail tracks on the floating bridge, and then ride on new bike infrastructure into the Rainier Valley. The ride will end at the Mount Baker light rail station which participants may use to get back to the start.
This ride is expected to last around 2 hours (estimated finish at 1:00 pm).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
