Celebrate the opening of a new segment of the Lake to Sound Trail on this 6 mile ride through SeaTac, Burien, and Tukwila at a Leisurely (10-12 mph average on flat ground) pace that will include a trail opening celebration with King County Parks and the Leafline Trails Coalition! This new trail segment further joins the cities of SeaTac, Burien, Tukwila, and Des Moines as part of the Lake to Sound Trail that will eventually connect Lake Washington and Puget Sound.
We will meet in the plaza next to the Angle Lake light rail station parking garage with the blue sculpture covering (19955 28th Ave S, SeaTac, WA 98188). Bike access is from the Lake to Sound Trail. Transit access is from Sound Transit's 1 Line light rail and King County Metro Bus RapidRide A. Parking can be found in the adjacent parking garage.
Please be ready to ride at 11:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that’s done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
We will ride along a new segment of the Lake to Sound Trail, stopping at a few places to learn about how the trail was planned and built with the reuse of existing roadways and protection of wildlife habitats. We will join the trail opening celebration a little after 11:30 am which includes speeches from local officials, then continue along parts of the Lake to Sound Trail until it reaches the Tukwila/International Blvd light rail station.
Please note: this route starts from the Angle Lake light rail station and ends at the Tukwila-International Blvd light rail station. You can take the light rail back to the start or retrace the route (up to 12 miles round trip).
There are restrooms near the start at the Chevron gas station across 28th Ave.
The route is mostly on paved roads and trails.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
