Bike the Light Rail: Federal Way Extension Loop (Steady)

Join us for a transit tour from Angle Lake Station on a 39 mile loop from SeaTac to Federal Way and back at a Steady (12-14 mph average on flat ground) pace!

We will meet in the plaza next to the Angle Lake light rail station parking garage with the blue sculpture covering (19955 28th Ave S, SeaTac, WA 98188). Bike access is from the Lake to Sound Trail. Parking can be found in the adjacent parking garage. Transit access is from Sound Transit's 1 Line light rail and King County Metro Bus RapidRide A.

Please be ready to ride at 10:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that’s done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

We will visit a total of 3 future light rail stations, then explore the Weyerhauser property in Federal Way, and return using the Interurban Trail and Lake to Sound Trail. We will take a restroom & water break at Town Square Park in Federal Way (mile 12.1), with options for additional restroom/water stops as needed at a port-a-john off 37th Ave (mile 22.1), Shell gas station (mile 24.8), and Bicentennial Park in Tukwila (mile 30.5). There are restrooms near the start at the Chevron gas station across 28th Ave.

The route is mostly on paved roads and trails with a brief section on gravel.

Please note: this ride is expected to last around 5 hours (estimated finish by 3:00 pm) and will end at Angle Lake Station. The route passes by the Tukwila light rail station, so riders have the option if they need to end their ride early.

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
