Cascade Bicycle Club will play an important role in the effort to get soccer fans to bike to Seattle’s six 2026 FIFA World Cup matches in June and July.
Sound Transit and FIFA have partnered with Cascade to provide free and secure bike parking at Lumen Field and key transit hubs on game days.
“We are excited to team up with Sound Transit and FIFA to make it easy for soccer fans to avoid game-day traffic jams and instead use bikes and light rail to reach the matches,” says Cascade Executive Director Lee Lambert.
An estimated 750,000 people are expected to visit Seattle for the matches that kick off on June 15 and conclude on July 6.
To prevent traffic gridlock, transportation officials and World Cup organizers are urging fans to avoid driving and instead bike, walk, scoot, and use mass transit.
“Seattle in the summertime is one of the most beautiful cities in North America, and there’s no better way to get around, sightsee and enjoy our long daylight hours than on the saddle of a bicycle,” Lambert says.
World Cup Bike Valet Locations
Cascade will provide free bike valet service at Lumen Field, rebranded as Seattle Stadium for the World Cup, and at Sound Transit’s Rainier Beach Station and Redmond’s Downtown Redmond Station.
Soccer fans (and light rail users who will experience crowded trains on match days) can drop off their bikes before boarding trains into the city.
Sound Transit will not allow bicycles onto trains on game days due to anticipated crowding. The one exception is folding bikes, which will be allowed on trains if folded.
Cascade staff will also be stationed at Seattle’s Northgate Station to help people with bikes find BikeLink lockers and bike storage areas, which will be free for people with a BikeLink account.
Cascade has expertise offering free bike parking for major sporting events including Seattle Sounders FC matches. In February, Cascade partnered with Sound Transit to offer free bike parking during the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl parade.
