Seattle's 17th Annual Cranksgiving

Cranksgiving is a food drive/scavenger hunt on bicycle: form teams, collect items, deliver them for points! All you need is a bike, a bag, and a lock. This event happens rain or shine!!!

Our 17th Cranksgiving in Seattle will take place on November 21, 2026. This year we will again support Byrd Barr Place, University District Food Bank, White Center Food Bank, and Rainier Valley Food Bank.

RSVP for Cranksgiving 2026

Join this fun and exciting ride to support those in need! Your participation greatly supports our community food banks as they work to combat food insecurity in Seattle this holiday season.

RSVP

Last year we broke the Seattle record, with 385 riders, who collected and donated 6,540 pounds of food and supplies to Byrd Barr Place, U District, White Center, and Rainier Valley Food Banks. Let's see what we can do this year!

Date:

Saturday 11/21/2026

Schedule:

9 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.Assembly at Byrd Barr Place food bank (Address: 722 18th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122).
9:45 a.m.Announcements & Introductions
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.Embark on the Scavenger Hunt! Complete challenges, buy grocery items, and deliver them to our partner food banks!
1 p.m. - 3 p.m.Unwind at the After Party (Central Cinema)

No registration fee!

However, participants should anticipate spending a minimum of $40 on groceries (feel free to contribute more!).

Ride Distance:

  • Riders should be prepared for a total journey of 12 to 15 miles throughout the event.
  • We will also be offering Mini-Cranksgiving: a 3- to 5-mile option to ensure everyone can participate comfortably.

Team Participation:

  • Gather your friends and ride as a team (up to 4 people if you're competing for prizes). Elevate the fun by wearing costumes! Be ready with a team name at the start to earn points.
  • Both teams and solo riders are heartily welcomed.
  • If you’re without a team but keen on joining one, worry not. At the start, we'll endeavor to match solo riders with teams that are open to additional members.

Your Checklist for Cranksgiving

  1. Dress warmly. Layers recommended.
  2. Come with a bike ready to ride the chosen distance.
  3. Navigation tools, such as a bike computer with gps, map or smartphone.
  4. Means to carry food donations – backpack, bike bags, or cargo bike.
  5. Bike lock, mask, and water bottle. (Many of our food banks require masks due to vulnerable populations)
  6. Pen for marking off your scavenger hunt list.

How Cranksgiving 2026 will work

Start:

Gather at Byrd Barr Place (map) at 9 a.m. You'll be handed a manifest card detailing items the chosen food bank needs and suggested grocery sellers. You'll be able to choose your first food bank (University District Food Bank, Rainier Valley Food Bank, or White Center food Bank) Mini-Cranksgiving riders will receive a single manifest for a shorter round-trip back to Byrd Barr Place.

Ride to first Food Bank:

Purchase items on the route to your selected food bank (or designated drop-off location) and complete fun challenges for bonus points. Once at the food bank/drop-off site, deposit your donations in designated bins. Tally your points and receive a stamp as well as a second manifest card from a volunteer.

Ride to second Food Bank:

With a new manifest card in hand, journey back to the Byrd Barr Place Food Bank. Repeat the buying and challenge completion process.

After party

After your ride, celebrate with fellow participants! We'll set up at Central Cinema at 1:00pm, and will announce totals/winners at 2:00pm. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

The event should take roughly 4 hours. Don't stress if you can only ride to one food bank or miss the after-party – your participation alone is cherished!

Volunteer!

Interested in volunteering at Cranksgiving this year? We'll need people to help out at each of the food bank locations, as well as the after party. We'll post volunteer opportunities soon.

Terrain

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
