Course Description
Roadside Repair focuses on any major repairs you may need to make to your bike when you are out riding. We won’t be covering fixing a flat or preventative maintenance but we will be looking at:
- What to keep in your tool kit and why
- Chain falling off your cassette or chain rings
- Loose bolts and critical bolts
- Sudden brake rubbing
- Derailleur failure
- How to fix a broken chain
Whether you have some experience, or have thousands of miles under your tires, these skills will help you to be more self-sufficient in the case of a breakdown. This is great know-how for anyone looking to feel more confident in leading a group of riders or going on more solo trips.
Prerequisites
Familiarity in adjusting and maintaining your braking and shifting system is helpful for this class. If you do not yet have those skills we would first recommend taking our Chains and Derailleurs and Brake System Maintenance class.
Type of Bike this Class is For
- Any acoustic (non-electric) or electric bike is welcome.
- Bring your own bike if you can so you can get some real-world practice!
- If you are unable to bring a bike to class one will be provided for you, but we cannot guarantee that it will have similar components to your personal bike
Have an e-Bike?
This class is primarily designed for acoustic (non-electric) bikes. However, the curriculum does apply to most e-bike models. In general, students with e-bikes will need to work with their bike on the ground (not in a stand) and we will not be covering information on motors, e-assist, electrical components or other e-bike specific technology.
