Let's meet at the Seattle Fishermen's Memorial at Fishermen's Terminal. Plan on arriving early enough to get yourself and your bike situated, and be ready to ride at 10 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done.  All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

Route: Today's TREATS ride will take us to West Seattle for a little holiday sightseeing at Salty's and two private homes decorated for the holidays. We'll also stop for coffee and pastries at Bakery Nouveau about halfway through the ride. Then we'll return the long way via Seattle's two floating bridges.

Navigation: The planned route/cue sheet is at the link to the right. The goal is to stay together by regrouping as necessary, but please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own.

Pace:  We will be riding at a MODERATE pace of 14-16 MPH, faster on the descents and slower on the climbs. We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup occasionally as needed. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).

Restrooms:  Restrooms are available at the start. Please arrive early enough to make use of the facilities before the SMART talk.  We may also stop along the way for restrooms/water at the following locations:
mile 10     Jack Block Park - restrooms, water (optional)
mile 18     Lincoln Park - restrooms, water (optional)
mile 21     Bakery Nouveau - food, water, restrooms
mile 32     I-90 Trail - porta potty (optional)
mile 40     Medina Park - porta potty (optional)

Coffee & Food:  Please bring your own snacks and water for brief stops during the ride, but our main rest/food stop will be at Bakery Nouveau in West Seattle at mile 21.

Health and Safety: Please no spitting or snot rockets while riding in a group. if you must deal with a situation, please fall back behind the last rider before taking care of business.

Fenders:  At this time of year, fenders are recommended! Please come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry or be prepared to ride at the rear of the group.

Lights: Please reserve high-output flashing/blinking lights for your solo rides; they can distract others on group rides. Setting them to constant-on (non-flashing) is appreciated if you don't want to turn them off. Please aim headlights downward to avoid blinding riders using mirrors.

Repairs: Be prepared with the equipment and know-how to take care of your own flats and mechanicals, and a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there (ORCA card or someone to call). If you have a problem (and the leader is made aware of it) the group will stop briefly to help or to make sure you will be OK on your own, but we may not wait for repairs to be completed.

Can't make it after all? Please cancel your registration to open spots for other riders. (Click on the green "Register or Cancel" button and follow the prompts.) If possible, please cancel at least two hours before ride start.

Cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.

We hope you can join us!

Distance
50 mi.
Elevation Gain
2,001 ft.
Pace
Moderate: [14-16mph]

What Pace Means

Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

Note: For rides with a “hilly” terrain classification, consider choosing a pace one step down from your usual comfort level.

Terrain
Some Hills

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
