Let's meet at the Mercer Island QFC (south end) parking lot.  Restrooms and water are available inside QFC. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done.  All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

We will head north on Mercer Island and then spend some time on the I90 trail, Eastrail and Lake Washington Blvd.  We'll have an optional restroom/view stop at Gene Coulon Park at about mile 13.5.  Our lunch stop is at Panera at The Landing in Renton.  As this stop is at around mile 14.5, we may skip the stop at Gene Coulon.  From Renton, we'll head north on the west side of the lake and enjoy Seward Park at mile 22.5, where we'll have our final restroom stop. We'll take the I90 trail back to Mercer Island and head south back to QFC.

We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, but we will generally stay together along the route. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).

A working white headlight and a red rear taillight are suggested to participate. We are firmly in our lovely rainy season, so please help out your fellow cyclists by ensuring you have full fenders. If not, you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to consider bringing: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. 

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.

What Pace Means

Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

Note: For rides with a “hilly” terrain classification, consider choosing a pace one step down from your usual comfort level.

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
