This route is mostly on roads through the forest. In Dorre Don there is a photo op on an old Railroad bridge (mile 13). A short section (0.2 miles) of packed gravel on the Cedar River Trail takes us to a neighborhood where there is a 7% climb on pavement (200 yards). Rock Creek Natural Area has some rollers. Lunch stop is early (11:30 am) at Panera Bread (for menu see link Panera Bread - Maple Valley ) at mile 17.7. After lunch, the route heads back into the forest to Cumberland then descends to the Gorge. We will stop at a natural spring to fill water bottles. The Green River Gorge provides another photo op at mile 34. A gradual 3-mile climb up to Black Diamond brings us to the second rest stop (mile 40.8). We should be back to the start about 3:00 pm.

Start: Let's meet in the Lake Wilderness Lodge parking lot and be ready to ride at 10:00 am. We will start with a Route Review and required safety briefing then roll out when that's done.  All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. 

Restrooms: The start, [optional - Lake Francis Park - mile 8.1], Lunch - mile 17.7, Lake Sawyer Park Trailhead - mile 40.8

Regroup: We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, regrouping at the tops and bottoms.

What to Bring: A spare tube and tools to fix a flat, pocket snacks to eat along the way

Cue Sheet: If you would like a Route Map and Cue Sheet, print one from the Route Map link.

Cancellation:  If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel, and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.

Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

Note: For rides with a “hilly” terrain classification, consider choosing a pace one step down from your usual comfort level.

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
