Let's meet at the southeast corner of the parking lot for the Farmhouse restaurant.  Be there, ready to ride by 10 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done.  All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

This route is a combination of road and trail riding that hits some of my favorite sites and views around the Skagit Valley.  We start and end at the Farmhouse where you can get coffee and breakfast if you get there early and where we can gather for a sit down meal after the ride.

We warm up our legs with 4 flat miles as we ride south towards La Conner.  Our climbing begins when we cross the Swinomish Chanel into the Swinomish Reservation for western views of Kiket Bay. Then we get to enjoy a flat section around March Point (with great views of Padilla Bay), across the Fidalgo Bay Bridge and along the Tommy Thompson trail to Anacortes.

The climbing starts again when we ride up to the Cap Sante Park Viewpoint and then Washington Park for western views across Rosario Strait. After Washington Park, it's mostly downhill or flat back to the Farmhouse.

We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, but we will regroup frequently in order to stay together.

Restrooms are available at the start either at the restaurant or across the street at the Shell station. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water as follows:

  • mile   4      OPTIONAL restroom stop in La Conner
  • mile 21      Restroom at Cap Sante Marina; Turkish Coffee and treats at Zaza Coffee.
  • mile 22      Cap Sante Park Viewpoint & Group Photo
  • mile 28      Washington Park Viewpoint & Group Photo
  • mile 34      Restroom at Cap Sante Marina;

Bring a spare tube (or two) and tools to fix a flat, just in case. (The Fidalgo Bay Bridge is often littered with sharp seashells.) Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snacks. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If the weather forecast the night before calls for showers or temperatures below 40 degrees or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.

We hope you can join us!

Distance
44 mi.
Elevation Gain
1,743 ft.
Pace
Steady: [12-14mph]

What Pace Means

Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

Note: For rides with a “hilly” terrain classification, consider choosing a pace one step down from your usual comfort level.

Terrain
Hilly

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
