******* READ BELOW - NEW NERD RIDE TYPE !!!!!!!! *******
This is an opportunity for people who live south and want to try riding from the north end and have not ridden a NERD ride before.
Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Route Notes: This week we will be riding the route, One Way or Another. This is a unique ride for NERD and you will have options and be given the responsibility to get to and from the ride start or end. We will be starting the ride from the Edmonds Park & Ride but this is a one way ride. This means you will be on your own to get home from the ride end at the UW Light Rail Station. Here are some ways you may choose to get to or from the ride:
Take the light rail to the Lynnwood Transit Center and ride to the Edmonds Park & Ride (see the route in the links section, flat 2 mile ride mostly on the Interurban Trail) and after the ride you can take the train home or ride to home. Purchase a ticket or use your ORCA card. Make sure to plan enough time to get to the ride start and bring a light for the way home if needed.
Park at the Edmonds Park & Ride for the start and at the end of the ride you can take the light rail from the UW back to the Lynnwood Transit Center and ride the 2 flat miles on the Interurban Trail back to the Edmonds Park & Ride (see the route in the links section). Purchase a ticket or use your ORCA card and bring a light for the ride back to the Park & Ride.
Or you may get creative and come up with another plan.
Many of the roads we will be riding have traffic so it is important to ride single file, use proper hand signals, and alert fellow riders to hazards.
All riders should have navigation in the event of separation due to flats or other situations. Please either download the RWGPS route file onto your phone or GPS device (making sure you sync your device before the ride start), or print out and bring a cue sheet. Cue sheets are not available at the start.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Restrooms: Restrooms ARE NOT available at the start, and we do not have a planned restroom stop on the route so please plan accordingly. If needed, you may consider doing business at a local establishment to use their restroom.
Lights: Since our ride could finish after sunset or if you have a mechanical, a working white headlight and red rear tail light (steady mode preferred) are required to participate.
Mechanical Issues: Riders should know how to change a flat, or deal with other minor mechanical issues and carry a spare tube (or two!) and appropriate tools. Riders must have a backup plan if roadside repairs are not sufficient. Riders should have a charged cell phone to call for a pick-up or have other means to find their way home.
Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; water and a small snack.
Fenders: Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Weather Cancellations: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
