Free Group Ride
**CANCELLED** MUMPS "Nice Day" Clockwise Lake Washington Loop *Plus* (Moderate)
Event has been cancelled.
Full
... of 15 spots remaining
Join us on this clockwise Lake Washington Loop variation that has become one of our favorites.
Route: We’ll warm up on 100th Ave then coast down to Marina Park in Kirkland for a quick restroom break. After riding down and around the southern tip of Lake Washington, we'll head up to and through the Washington Park Arboretum. This "Nice Day" lake loop variation routes us on surface streets through Bryant and Wedgwood, bypassing a stretch of the Burke Gilman Trail, to add some variety (and a little extra climbing).
On the off chance that it's NOT such a "nice day" (i.e. rain), we might choose to take a rain route instead, avoiding cars on wet roads by making greater use of the Burke Gilman Trail on the way back to the start.
Start Location: We'll meet at Log Boom Park, where restrooms are available. Depending on which MUMPS pace groups have rides listed this Monday, Steady pace will gather near the restrooms, Brisk will meet near the edge of the parking lot, and Moderate in the middle (between the other groups)
Please be there, ready to ride, at the time noted above. We will start with the required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Parking: Please do not park in the Log Boom parking lot; use the on-street parking on NE 175thSt. just east of the park.
Pace: The MUMPS series offers multiple paces. Riders are welcome to change pace groups during the ride (but see "IMPORTANT" paragraph below). We'll limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (typically 10 or 15 MPH)
Navigation: The planned route/cue sheet is at the link on the right (please download both "nice day" and rain routes). The goal is to stay together via regrouping as necessary, but we won’t be able to wait long for anyone substantially off the pace. Please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own, as the ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group.
IMPORTANT: Each ride leader will make their own weather cancellation decisions independently, so one pace group may cancel while another rides, and one group may take a shortcut, while another may not. An "on the roll" switch to a rain route is possible. Groups may ride different routes on the same day (half lake loop vs. full loop, for example.) These factors could change your options for moving between pace groups on the roll.
Restrooms: At Mile 8.5 Marina Park, 21.3 Coulon Park, 34 Madrona Park.
Food: Enjoy the snacks and drink that you bring with you at any of the rest stops; there is no sit-down coffee stop.
Can't make it after all? How to cancel your registration: If you won't be able to ride, please cancel ASAP to open the space for another rider. After signing in, click "Hi (your name)" at the right upper corner of this page, then click "Account Dashboard", scroll down to where you see this ride listed under "Upcoming Free Group Rides", and click "Cancel registration" on the right.
Cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
Fenders: Please be considerate of other riders' comfort and safety by using full fenders with long, stable mud flaps (ideally 2" and a maximum of 4" from the ground) if rain is possible or the roads are wet. You may still ride without such long fenders and flaps, but if it's wet you will need to ride at the back of the group (behind all bikes with better fenders).
Flashing Lights: Please reserve high-output flashing/blinking lights for your solo rides; they can distract others on group rides. Setting them to constant-on (non-flashing) or "peloton mode" helps.
Repairs: Be prepared with the equipment and know-how to take care of your flats and mechanicals, and a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there (ORCA card or someone to call). If you have a problem the group may stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own, but we may not wait for repairs to be completed.
Hope you can join us!
