*** STEADY PACE *** There may also be other paced Pie Rides. Please see the Rides Calendar/postings for other start locations as well before registration.

****NOTE:  START TIME AT 11:30 A.M.  FOR FULL SELECTION OF PIE***

PIE RIDE: We will ride north on the Burke-Gilman Trail to the North Shore Senior Center (NSSC) in Bothell, just beyond Blyth Park. We then take a pie, brownie or cookie break at NSSC. A variety of homemade pies with whipped or ice cream, sodas and coffee are usually available for riders to purchase at a reasonable price.  Please note: purchases may be with cash (small bills please), charge or debit cards (plastic purchases are a minimum of $1.00). We will be there for about 30 to 60 minutes, use the restrooms if needed and then return to Matthews Beach.

Route: Come, have fun, converse and enjoy this social bike ride along the Burke Gilman Trail.  The terrain is flat.

Pace: Steady Pace

Cue sheets: No cue sheets provided. Stay together ride.

Fenders: If the riding surfaces are wet, please come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Ride start: We meet at the Matthews Beach parking lot.  Please be ready to ride at 11:30 a.m. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. Note: Water and restrooms are available at the start.

Be Prepared:  Be prepared if you have a mechanical problem e.g. flat tire or have a rescue plan, e.g. bus pass (ORCA card).

Parking: Free parking at Matthews Beach parking lot. Arrive early to beat the seagulls for a parking spot.

Weather cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride location.

If you have questions, please contact the Ride Leader.

Distance
17 mi.
Elevation Gain
335 ft.
Pace
Steady: [12-14mph]

What Pace Means

Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

Note: For rides with a “hilly” terrain classification, consider choosing a pace one step down from your usual comfort level.

Terrain
Mostly Flat

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
