NOTE: This is the first mentored ride for Russ Dodds in becoming a Cascade ride leader.
Ride start: We meet at the Matthews Beach parking lot. Please be ready to ride at 11:00 a.m. We will start with the required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. Note: Water and restrooms are available at the start
Route: Come have fun and enjoy this bike ride from Matthews Beach to Woodinville and back. Our route follows the Burke Gilman Trail north. Then east of Blyth Park in Bothell we exit the trail on to Riverside Drive to Woodinville. We will take a short mid-ride restroom/water break at the Wilmot Gateway Park (Woodinville) and then return to Matthews Beach. The terrain is fairly flat but with some hill climbing easterly on Riverside Drive road as well as the road section east of Blyth Park in south Bothell.
Fenders: If the roads are wet, come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the rider behind you dry or be the caboose.
Parking: Free parking at Matthews Beach parking lot. Be sure to secure your valuables.
Pace: The pace is steady at 12-14 mph.
Food: Bring food or snacks to eat on the ride, there will be no lunch break.
Mechanical: Be prepared to handle mechanical issues, if you have a problem e.g. flat tire. Bring a spare tube, tools, patch kit, pump and skills to fix flats, have a mobile phone or an ORCA Pass and a plan B for a rescue in case you or your bike fails.
Cue sheets: Printable from the Route Map link.
Weather cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed in the ride description or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride location.
