Ride starts at Cascade Bicycle Club Headquarters in Magnuson Park

Route:  Come have fun and enjoy this bike ride from Magnuson Park(CBC offices) clockwise around Lake Washington and back. We will take short mid-ride restroom/water breaks at the Marina Park in Kirkland, Gene Coulon Park in Renton(if needed) and Seward Park in South Seattle also other locations as needed. The terrain is generally flat with some hill climbing north of Juanita & Kirkland and on the west side of Lake Washington.  Our route is on roads but also includes the BGT and the East Trail.

Ride start: Please be ready to ride by 8:00 am for the required SMART briefing before leaving on the ride. Water and restrooms may or may not be available at the start location. However, they are available at Logboom Park, just east of Lake Forest Park (about 5 miles after the start location) and at various locations along the route. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

Fenders: If the roads are wet, come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the rider behind you dry or be the caboose.

Parking:  We ask that you not park in front of the Magnuson Brewery & Sail Sand Point locations. Please find parking in one of the other lots in Magnuson Park.  Be sure to secure your valuables or leave none in your car.

Pace:  The pace is Steady at 12 to 14 mph, NOTE: on the BGT or other trails, we will observe the posted speed limit.

Food: Bring food or snacks to eat on the ride, there will be no lunch break.

Mechanical:  Be prepared to handle mechanical issues, if you have a problem e.g. flat tire.  Bring a spare tube, tools, patch kit, pump and skills to fix flats and have a mobile phone and a plan for rescue in case your bike fails.

Weather cancellation:  If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.

What Pace Means

Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

Note: For rides with a “hilly” terrain classification, consider choosing a pace one step down from your usual comfort level.

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
