*** STEADY PACE *** There may also be other paced Pie Rides. Please see the Rides Calendar before registration.

****NOTE:  START TIME AT 11:30 A.M.  FOR FULL SELECTION OF PIE***

PIE RIDE: We will ride north on the Burke-Gilman Trail to the North Shore Senior Center (NSSC) in Bothell, just beyond Blyth Park. We then take a pie, brownie or cookie break at NSSC. A variety of homemade pies with whipped or ice cream, sodas and coffee are usually available for riders to purchase at a reasonable price.  Please note: purchases may be with cash, charge or debit cards (plastic purchases are a minimum of $1.00). We will be there for about 30 to 60 minutes, use the restrooms if needed and then return to Matthews Beach.

There are currently no COVID-19 protocols listed on their website. Vaccinations are strongly encouraged. Having a mask at hand is a good idea to be sure you can gain entrance to the facility.  For latest updates, see the North Shore Senior Center link below, and go to the "News" section.

Route: Come, have fun, converse and enjoy this social bike ride along the Burke Gilman Trail.  The terrain is flat.

Pace: Steady Pace

Cue sheets: No cue sheets provided. Stay together ride.

Fenders: If the riding surfaces are wet, please come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry or be the caboose.

Ride start: We meet at the Matthews Beach parking lot.  Please be ready to ride at 11:30 a.m. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done.  If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group. Note: Water and restrooms are available at the start.

Be Prepared:  Be prepared if you have a mechanical problem e.g. flat tire or have a rescue plan, e.g. bus pass (ORCA card).

Register: Please sign an e-waiver by clicking on the “Register Now” button at the top of this page (right below the ride title) and enter your information.

Parking: Free parking at Matthews Beach parking lot. Arrive early to beat the seagulls for a parking spot.

Weather cancelation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.

If you have questions, please contact the Ride Leader.

Pace
Steady: [12-14mph]

What Pace Means

Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

Note: For rides with a “hilly” terrain classification, consider choosing a pace one step down from your usual comfort level.

Terrain
Mostly Flat

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
