Free Group Ride
FRUMPS : EARLY START South Whidbey Loop from Mukilteo (Steady)
Ride Contact
... of 15 spots remaining
Let's meet at the Harborview Park in Mukilteo. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a quick required safety briefing, then ride 15 min to the ferry terminal for the 9:30 ferry. We'll discuss the particulars of the route during the ferry trip. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate, but if you want to meet us at the ferry terminal (PLEASE let me know if you want to do this), we can repeat it.
The end time is based on catching the 2:35 return ferry, with time to ride back to Harborview park, but I make no promises! Ferries leave every 30 minutes. The cost of a person-bike trip is $8.10 for adults (available online https://wave2go.wsdot.com/webstore/landingPage), $4.55 for seniors (must buy at terminal with ID).
Let's go ride on Whidbey Island, where the roads are quiet, maybe the temperature a bit lower, and the air a little clearer! This is a hilly ride, visiting both the west side of the island and Langley on the east, but no crazy grades. It's a great opportunity to climb a little more than you usually do! Note the route mileage includes 6 mile of ferry ride, so it's really ~45 mi, or 39 if you meet us at the ferry terminal.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup frequently, at the top of hills and at turns if we are spread out.
Restrooms are available at the start, at the ferry terminal, and on the ferry. We will stop on the island for restrooms/water at miles 16 (Maxwelton Park) and 37 (Langley.) We’ll also stop for coffee/snacks at Payless Foods in Freeland at mile 28. The end time is based on catching the 2:35 return ferry, with time to ride back to Harborview park.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: Steady Rain Cancels but Light Rain may be handled with a rain route on the mainland. If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
