... of 20 spots remaining
Join us for a 36-mile ride at a steady pace. Let's meet near the restrooms in Jack Block Park, and please be ready to ride at 9:45 a.m. We will start with the required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This ride offers an opportunity to experience the multiple natural environments that can be found as one loops around the south half of Lake Washington. Riverfront views along the serpentine Duwamish, a wooded heron preserve, the wide, leafy rail-trail on the east side of the lake, a hilltop view of the Seattle skyline (shown in the ride posting) -- we'll see them all. Most of the route is on bike paths where bike/pedestrian traffic is expected to be light. Along the way, we'll cross the unremarkable boundaries of five diverse cities -- Seattle, Tukwila, Renton, Bellevue and Mercer Island. At Mile 33, we'll make the steep descent down Holgate Way; from there, the route is mostly flat.
We will encounter a few hills on this route, but they are short. We will climb and descend them at our own pace, and our goal will be to stay together. Restrooms and water are available at the start. We will stop for restrooms/water at Gene Coulon Beach Park (mile 17). Lunch will be in the Mercer Island business district (mile 27).
If you are driving to the start from outside of West Seattle, parking is available at Jack Block Park. Or consider taking public transportation (West Seattle Water Taxi or King County Metro's Rapid Ride, C line).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
