Come and ride a fun new twist on English Hill! We will start from Blyth Park and ride through Bothell and Woodinville on the Burke-Gilman and Sammamish River Trails. Once our legs are nice and warm we will start the climb in to English Hill. It will look very familiar and then suddenly we will turn off the well-established route and explore some of the back roads until we roll along a hard-packed gravel fire road and down NE Redmond Road into the back of Redmond. We will take the Evans Creek Trail and then ride to our coffee stop at Peet’s by the East Lake Sammamish Trail. After our break we will ride up Redmond-Woodinville Road and then down 116th to the Eastrail. Hard packed gravel will take us behind Chateau San Michelle and to Woodinville to head back to the start.

Ride Start and Time:  We will meet at the Blyth Park parking lot.  Please be ready to ride by 10:00am when we will have a required safety briefing, rolling out immediately after. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

Pace:  Pace is Steady, 12-14 mph on flat, smooth surfaces without wind. Riders should be strong enough to maintain that speed range on flats, for the ride distance.  Climbing and descending is at each rider's own preferred speed.  Leader will climb at a level of effort which should be achievable for the average rider at this pace.  However, riders significantly off the group pace should be prepared to complete the ride solo, and may wish to consider selecting a slower pace for their next ride.  Riders are urged to carry route details with them, in their memory cells, on a portable device with charged battery, or on a printed copy of the cue sheet.

Regrouping:  We will regroup, if needed, at the top of climbs, and before any major turns.

Rest and Food Stops:  Restrooms are available at the start at Blyth Park. We will stop at Peet’s at mile 21.3 for coffee and snacks.

Fenders:  For the safety and comfort of your fellow riders as well as yourself, long fenders with extended flaps that reach within 4 inches of the road are appreciated if roads are damp or rain is possible. If you are spraying fellow riders you may be asked to ride at the back of the group.

Mechanical Issues:  Riders should bring tools and have knowledge to repair flats or minor mechanical problems.  Be prepared to complete the ride on your own, should your bike require a time-consuming repair. The group will stop briefly to ensure you are okay, but will not wait for repairs to be completed if they take more than a few minutes.  Please have a backup plan - person to call, or transportation fare - if you are unable to ride to the finish.

Cancellation:  Ride will be cancelled for inclement weather as listed above, or other hazardous road or riding conditions such as steady strong winds or unhealthy air quality.   Should conditions call for a cancellation, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.

If you have any questions, you may contact the ride leader.  Looking forward to riding with you!

Steady: [12-14mph]

What Pace Means

Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

Note: For rides with a “hilly” terrain classification, consider choosing a pace one step down from your usual comfort level.

Terrain
Some Hills

What Terrain Means

Terrain indicates the most common or average terrain type of the ride and should be considered relative to the length and overall difficulty of the ride. For example, a long-distance ride with a lot of elevation gain will be overall less challenging than a short ride with equal elevation gain. Consider the pace and frequency of regroup as well to understand how advanced a ride may be.

  • Mostly flat: Trails and/or mostly flat roads with a possible gentle uphill
  • Rolling: Climbs are short and easy, not too numerous
  • Some hills: A few short, steep hills, some moderate upgrades and/or longer gentle climbs
  • Hilly: Consistent or continuous climbing
  • Off-road: Significant unpaved sections
