**CANCELLED** FRUMPS: Five Cities on the Lake (Steady)
Ride Contact
Event has been cancelled.
... of 15 spots remaining
Join us for a 37-mile ride at a steady pace. Let's meet near the restrooms in Jack Block Park, and please be ready to ride at 9:45 a.m. We will start with the required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
The Five Cities route will take us around the southern "half" of Lake Washington -- namely, all of the Lake south of I-90. On the way, we will ride through five of the 11 cities that have Lake Washington shoreline (Seattle, Renton, Newcastle, Bellevue and Mercer Island).
We'll begin at Jack Block Park in West Seattle and head south following the Duwamish Trail, the Green River Trail and the Lake to Sound Trail. On the way, we'll cross the Duwamish River three times. After the first crossing (depicted in the ride announcement), we'll depart from the Green River Trail and ride through Tukwila's Allentown neighborhood. Following our second crossing (immediately after leaving Allentown), we'll rejoin the Green River Trail and then (after one more crossing) hop onto the relatively new Lake to Sound Trail. On the way, we'll see what remains of the Black River. After riding through downtown Renton, we'll make a rest stop at Gene Coulon Park, then head north along the east side of the Lake. We'll cross the East Channel Bridge to Mercer Island on the I-90 bike path. After a lunch stop on Mercer Island, we'll return to the start, crossing Lake Washington on I-90 and rolling down Dearborn Street, Jackson Street and First Avenue South.
There are very few hills on this route. We will climb and descend them at our own pace, and our goal will be to stay together.
Restrooms and water are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at Gene Coulon Beach Park (mile 17). Lunch will be in the Mercer Island business district (mile 26).
If you are driving to the start from outside of West Seattle, parking is available at Jack Block Park. Or consider public transportation (West Seattle Water Taxi or King County Metro's Rapid Ride, C line).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
