Whidbey Island, with quiet rural roads, rolling hills, and water views, is well worth the short ferry ride! Please note the route link counts the ferry ride in the miles, so it's really only 44 miles or so of pedaling, and rollers help with the climbing.
Let's meet at the Harborview Park. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out to catch the 9:30 ferry when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. START NOTE 1: Mukilteo Blvd will be closing "in the fall." If that means Aug 9, start location will be moved to Paine Field Community Park, adding miles and elevation - check for email updates the day before. START NOTE 2: There is limited parking at Harborview Park. Please consider carpooling and/or looking for street parking in the neighborhood across the street. Alternatively, you can pay to park at the ferry landing, or on the other side if that's where you are. I can repeat the safety briefing. Just let me know so we don't wait at the start!
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup frequently, at turns and the tops of hills.
Restrooms are not available at the start. They will be available at 2.2 miles at the ferry terminal. Please make use of restrooms and water on the ferry because there is no stop until Freeland, 23 miles after leaving the ferry. Payless Foods in Freeland will be our food/coffee stop.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
