**NOTE: 9:45 AM Start**
Let's meet at the Nick Loutsis Park in Carnation @9:45 am. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
If you would like a change of pace from road riding and have a gravel or mountain bike, join us for a social gravel ride from Carnation to Rattlesnake Lake and back. The ride features quiet woodlands, stunning views from bridges and beautiful sections along the river. We will follow the Snoqualmie Valley trail (wide gravel trail) for 10 miles then have a few miles on pavement through the town of Snoqualmie before picking up the gravel again near the Mt Si golf course. The grade for the first half is 1 to 2% and portions of the second half have a grade of up to 3%. Most of the elevation gain is in the first half of the route. The return will be on the same trails and will be a gradual downhill but will take a slightly different route through the town of Snoqualmie, which has a few short steeper sections of pavement. If the weather should turn cold and wet, we can easily shorten the route by turning around at any time.
This is an off-road ride. Effort level will be similar to steady pace, but you may find your average speed a bit slower than on pavement. We will climb and descend hills at our own pace and regroup occasionally. We recommend lower pressure tires with tread and width of at least 28 and preferably wider. This ride is NOT SUITABLE for high pressure smooth road bike tires. As we will be in a fairly remote area for portions of the ride and may have spotty cell service, be sure your bike is in good working condition. Bring spare tubes and tools to fix a flat, just in case.
There is a sanican at the start but no water. Bring 2 full water bottles. Bring a rain jacket even if the weather is dry and warm as it can change as we ascend towards the mountains. We will stop for lunch at the Cedar River Education Center near Rattlesnake Lake, which has some interesting displays and nice views. There are restrooms and water there but NO FOOD FOR PURCHASE. PACK A PICNIC AND OTHER SNACKS! There will also be a stop halfway up and halfway down at Centennial Fields Park in Snoqualmie (miles 13 and 33) which has restrooms and water.
Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card. Please have full fenders if conditions are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
